While she didn't go home with "American Idol" name, Kellie Pickler was one of the show's best alumni. She was born Kellie Dawn Pickler June 28, 1986 at Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle to Cynthia Morton and Clyde Raymond Pickler. The mother of the child was just sixteen when she fell expecting her. It was a harsh childhood for Pickler because her father struggled with addiction issues for both alcohol and substances and her mother had to leave her as she was just two. Morton was able to gain control of Pickler for two years. But, Pickler acknowledged that not everything was going well. "I remember my mom as well as me living in the same room, and I told her 'I'd rather die than be in your presence. I wish God would remove me.' She took a knife out, set it on the counter, then told me"Here's how to do it after that.' In fourth grade. She said "Of course I would never have done anything about it. However, it's resulted in a variety of emotional wounds." Pickler ended up being given to her grandparents by the court when she turned 12 years old. Morton failed to appear in the court hearing. Pickler was taken care of by her grandparents all her life, citing their influence as the main factor in her life. The year was January 2002 when her mother Faye Pickler passed away from lung cancer. Pickler was raised by her grandfather. Pickler was awarded her high school diploma from North Stanly in New London, North Carolina.
